Nude Spanish Embassy Protest 2009

By Siobhan Gavaghan

On Tuesday 23rd June, 2009 a demonstration (organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) took place outside the Spanish Embassy in London, to coincide with the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. I took part in that demonstration.

Twenty semi naked men and women lay like dead bulls outside the embassy. We were smeared with fake blood and fake banderillas sticking from our backs.

We lay there for about half an hour and were surrounded by press photographers and onlookers, and various protestors were interviewed.

This type of demonstration is guaranteed to gain media attention, where ordinary demonstrations are all too often ignored and is therefore very effective.

It is a very empowering experience, and there is a real feeling of achievement after the demonstration.

This demonstration was featured in the Spanish newspapers, which was brilliant.
